Bandar Seri Begawan, 15 November 2016 – The Centre of USM Alumni Liaison (PPA), in collaboration with USM alumni in Brunei had conducted meetings and discussions with various organisations in the country. During a colloquium organized by the Islamic Development Management Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Brunei Darussalam and the Islamic Development Management Studies (ISDEV), USM, several promotional efforts were jointly conducted with the USM alumni. This opportunity was also utilized by PPA to establish the Brunei Chapter of the USM Alumni Association. The program was initiated with a casual meet, the sharing of ideas and to obtain valuable feedbacks from the alumni pertaining to the current developments in USM.
For promotional purposes, PPA had arranged a visit to the Division of Higher Education, Ministry of Education Brunei for discussion, sharing of information and exchanging views as well as offering opportunities to students from Brunei to study at the university, especially in the medical field. Assistant Director of the Division of Higher Education has conducted a briefing on the terms and conditions for students from Brunei Darussalam who wish to continue their studies abroad to obtain scholarships or loans. Information petaining to the academic staff of five universities namely Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Politeknik Brunei (PB) and also Institusi Pendidikan Teknikal Brunei (MTBE), who would like to continue their post-graduate studies in Malaysia, especially at USM were also given.
PPA also visited the Islamic Studies Department under the Ministry of Religious Affairs. During the visit, PPA shared relevant information about various academic programs offered by USM. The Management of the Islamic Studies Department gave positive feedbacks, resulting in a meeting with the students of Sekolah Meninges Arab Laki-Laki Hasanal Bolkiah (SMALHB).
PPA also conducted extensive briefings about USM’s academic programs to male and female students of Sekolah Menengah Arab Laki-Laki Hasanal Bolkiah (SMALHB). The teachers and students who participated in this briefing were particularly interested in the offer of placements in USM, especially in terms of the academic programs offered, its facilities and the tuition fees that are relatively cheaper compared to the developed countries
Efforts made by PPA received a positive reaction and caught the interest of His Excellency Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Raja Dato Seri Laila Jasa Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Abdul Karim (ISDEV Advisor). He facilitated in the organization of a discussion and briefing with the management of Laksamana College of Business, a private educational institution in Brunei to promote USM’s postgraduate academic program to the academic staff at the college.
In addition to networking with USM alumni at the colloquium, PPA also facilitated and implemented USM’s agenda to promote and provide an opportunity for the community abroad (students), particularly from Brunei, to pursue their studies at USM.
